3rd day - 31 day challenge by jane-beata

Many of you told me to stick with the drawing and I was risking it by putting on watercolor layers but I couldn't help it. So far I don't regret it (:

This painting was painted with watercolor (Schmincke Horadam), Copic multiliner, Ecoline & ink on 230g paper, original is 21 x 30 cm / 8.3 x 11.8 "

Wow, what a composition!

I'm sure I don't have to tell you how well the negative and positive spaces are playing off each other here. Whether a mix of luck and skill (personally I think it's skill at recognizing when you get lucky and keeping those happy accidents and refining them into gold), you definitely nailed it here.

This could tell so many stories, it's hard to focus on one. I'm seeing some kind of juxtaposition of night and day, first, with a subtle unnerving sense of death; as if there's an image of a skull hidden somewhere in the night that only appears when I look away and not directly at it (the large round black circle on the right). I also see her crying, as if those spatters are thrown from her eyes in frustration.

If you could isolate one of those feelings and refine it a touch more in that direction (not enough to make it mallet to the face obvious, just a little), you might be able to strengthen that theme a little and get it to tell a stronger story (I'm not sure if that's your thing, but it's an option to consider).

The only other thing I can really say I'd love to see in this is more experimentation with a second colour; the blue is working so well for you, a hint of a hotter colour like pink or some kind of green might send it out of the park.
Are you able to photocopy this and experiment with some other colours, or work digitally?

Really spectacular!

I want to start off by saying this is completely mystical. I look at this get get a mysterious sort of feeling that gives me the impression she knows something I don't. She has a story to tell, but won't tell it. Just keeps reliving it by herself with a small sense of resignation. It's like you caught her being nostalgic and her imagination coming to life around her.

Your crosshatching is well done and the water color shows good technique and control.

There are a small little details that are off. Really small things that if changed, only change the work proportion wise. Her nostrils and nose are slightly askew to my left and the eyes are a bit cross eyed. The pupils to be exact.

Other than those small things, she's dream-like. Truly beautiful. The shadows of the hair and the eye-ball like pattern of, I'm guessing her dress, is so nice to look at. It's aesthetically pleasing. The hair and moon-like circles add movement. It's complicated yet simple at the same time. It's intricately simple.

You have a great and unique style and it is shown wonderfully with her. Well done!
