Devious Garlic Fairy by jane-beata Devious Garlic Fairy by jane-beata
It's a Garlic Fairy! Isn't she cute? This is a portrait of ~Tactical-Genius that was made as a part of my DA project WEEKLY DEVIANT PORTRAITURE FREE OF CHARGE - hopefully she doesn't mind a little fantasy styling experiment! It's done in watercolor, Ecoline & Copic multiliner on 230g paper (21 x 21 cm / 8.3 x 8.3 ").

The depth of this piece is stunning. All of the layers you were able to create in the "hair" were so separate and yet seem to fit together very well. The two-tone style really draws attention to the brilliance of the blue and the warmth of her skin.

It has a quirky, offbeat character, and she seems to thrive in that, from the knowing look in her eyes. The "hair" almost looks like an onion, which is intriguing and creates a really funky shape for the painting to be modeled around.

The large, swooping lines are fantastic, controlled enough to not be sloppy but free enough to not be restricting to the blue beneath. Some of the puzzle-piece-shapes in the background are distracting because the lines are thick, but that's simply my preference as an observer. Different people will appreciate different elements of this piece.

My favourite part of the piece has to be the grin, though. The way that the cheeks pull up and the laugh lines are etched there permanently by your hand... the everlastingness of her weirdly perfect smile.

I was a bit off because I hate garlic and the idea of it hehe but all the blue tones just blew me away....
