All I can really say is how this drawing makes me smile but its a one hundred word minimum on critiques so ill see what I can come up with.. I love how the eyes seem to be the only thing with a little color, whether you did that on purpose or a happy accident of the pencil I cant say but I like it the outlines for the left side of the photo are a bit more indefinate than the right, but it looks natural, It might even look better this way. I hope your cousin liked the photo! Keep up the good work, you have talent.
This! This is just darling. It reminds me of a picture I took of my daughter a few years back. There is something so innocent about a child on a swing, like they have all the freedom in the world when they are up there. You captured such a beautiful expression on her face. And black and white- traditional is always a delight to see. I think it brings out the emotion better than digital can. Simply wonderful!
I second ~SincerelyGuin's critique, you chose a great shot to do! Volume of the hair and neck are gorgeous! Very well done! Eyes need work! you did much better eyes before! Try doing them like you do in color only in B&W. It should come out better like on a "Portrait of a child"! Her left hand is a bit small and connection of that arm with the body needs to be constructed differently! Just a bit more work on body construction, I practiced that doing drawings of pencil stills- take a rag, wrinkle it and draw away It helped me a lot with drawing fabrics on people... I LOVE the thing you did on swing chains! Well done Jane!
I can feel the majesty of childhood and the weightlessness created from swinging. It takes me back to the wood-ships and play ground.
Originality:
The sketchy feel to the ropes or chains really gives a sensation of being put in scene.
Technique:
Composition: Not giving a definite background helps keeps focus on the girl and the swing.
Expression: The pure joy on her face is infectious. I smile and laugh with her. Such palpable emotion.
Impact:
The light and life in this moment reminds me of the simplicity of childhood. Thank you for bringing out my younger inner child.
