I put the second option, because it's the closest. There's this guy that I've only seen from a distance. I've been like this for two years. Don't know if anything will come of it, but damn he's beautiful, and he's an artist.

Though I would add that since I don't know him, it's impossible to be completely in love with him. I'm only in love with the version I see of him, and that may not be completely what he's truly like.

I had this kind of thing, met a guy online, texted quite a lot, and though neither of us were flirtatious or even appeared too interested, I think we both were a little. We didn't even live that far apart, and, sometimes, suggested meeting up.
But, looking back, I liked the idea of him, more than the actual guy. I'd never had a boyfriend. He was 2 years older than me. He seemed nice, and we had some interests in common. But not enough, we didn't click, and I saw a picture of him, which (shallow me :S) just didn't really attract me to him, and the texts have just dried up... I don't miss him, or regret that nothing happened.

I now have a boyfriend who lives further away, but we've met, we liked each other in person first, despite my being older, and I'm much more in love with him than I ever thought I could be.

So, in conclusion, yes, for a short time, but I met another who I fell for completely and utterly, and that silly little crush seems so tiny, so stupid, and has gone entirely :)

Well I sorta did fall for a guy I hadn't met in a long time. But even back then we only knew each other, we weren't on talking terms. When we did stumble upon each other again three years later, I couldn't believe how much he'd grown. For the next couple of days I was in heaven I suppose; I kept replaying in my head that time we met and I just couldn't believe that he was so friendly and grown up cos I remembered him being so immature. When I return to school, buzzing with news to tell my friend, my image of him being a lovely, friendly and, most importantly, innocent boy crashed. There were some rumors in my year level that he had... another girl in my year. Apparently she agreed to it but her parents didn't see it that way. I couldn't believe how naive I was; that little rumor yanked me out of cloud nine in no time. So I guess it wasn't love but rather I was infatuated with my ideal version of him. You gotta know someone before you fall into the trap of love!

Rumors can be a misleading thing but you know best how to treat them, sorry to hear the crush was over but who knows, perhaps it has saved you a lot of time and a heartbreak (:

My current boyfriend (of 15 months) and I texted and skyped for a month after a mutual friend told me about him. We started dating 3 days after officially meeting in person.
I think things are going well. ;P

There was a guy who i didn't know at all who went to my school, he added me on Facebook. I said yes, thinking "Why not?" Sure enough, we messaged back and forth and grew very close. We started hanging out in and out of school. He is my best friend now and we both like each other so... maybe soon (:

I've fallen in love twice without meeting the person at first.
The first one is one of my best friends by now and the second is the guy of my dreams. We can talk about everything :)
We fell in love rather quickly  It wasn't even a month, but we saw each other for the first time after two months. We live 700km apart from each other, but we try meeting as much as possible :) And it's the best relationship I ever had.

7 years is a long time, is there something particular that attracts you about that person you haven't found elsewhere in real life?

I guess it's the way of thinking and sharing a lot of things like the love for art and fantasy figurines, speaking about "stupid" things. You know, when you talk about the other half of the apple... =)

When I was 5 years old I was as much in love with David Hasselhoff as a 5 year old girl could be. Even looking at his picture made me blush. I think I really loved him.

Hmmm, yes, I think it really was love. Although back then I dreamed of him rather as a kind of 'big brother best friend forever' than as a boyfriend.

Like a couple of others have said, I met my boyfriend online about 6 months ago. We both kinda liked each other so we started talking on skype more and more, and now, we text each other all the time and skype whenever we can. We might not have been together for as long as some others here but I'm going to see him next summer and I'm sure we can last :meow:

If you've never met the person you can fall in love with the IDEA of someone. But to actually fall for someone, you need to be with them, to know them for them and be able to call them on their bull. How can you if you've never even met? A person will always hide their weaknesses and bloat their strengths. And if, by chance that isn't the case, you'll always wonder, always question: what if its not true? What if its too good to be true? Call me pessimistic/cynical/hopeless but I just can't believe in a love without sustanence.

A great deal of what you've said is close to the truth but can't it also be true that when you are with someone physically (same room, town, country, keep in touch), you might get distracted by superficial things such as looks, some specific insignificant behavior or habits, and miss on what's the person truly about? It could be easier to hide things in correspondence, but wouldn't it be also easier to show your true self when you don't get distracted by direct eye contact?

I understand that, but loving someone isn't JUST about their personality. As petty as it may seem the other details, like annoying little habits or appearance, make up a relationship too. For me, love is accepting another person DESPITE these flaws. If that "insignificant" behavior/habit is enough to break off a relationship... Is that really even love? If you've found love via the internet or something, congrats. I commend you for your trust in other people, I however could never love someone I hadn't actually met. I need to KNOW them in every aspect. If you don't... Well that's great, you won't have to lie with my cynicism and utter lack of faith in humans in general.
